MAHLE Electric Drives Slovenia d.o.o. and the Jožef Stefan Institute were the recipients of the TARAS Award 2023. They received the award for the development of a new electric motor for electric power steering systems.

The objective of the project was to determine the geometry and material properties of the motor components in a way that would satisfy all technical requirements while minimizing the motor’s cost. The solution was achieved through an innovative simulation-based optimization process. A distinctive feature of this approach is the statistical evaluation of solutions that takes into account permissible manufacturing tolerances, ensuring that the resulting design is robust.

The outcome is a technically advanced and cost-effective motor that significantly enhances the company’s competitiveness in the market.
